Hot Cross Buns

Ingredients: 1 teaspoon baking powder,1/2 teaspoon baking soda,1/2 teaspoon cinnamon,2 tablespoons flour,1/4 teaspoon nutmeg,1/2 cup raisins,1 teaspoon salt,4 tablespoons shortening,3/4 cup sour milk,1/4 cup sugar
Instructions:

  1. Sift flour once, measure, add baking soda, baking powder, salt, sugar and spices, and sift again.
  2. Cut in shortening.
  3. Add raisins.
  4. Add enough sour milk to make a stiff dough. Turn onto floured board. Knead slightly.
  5. Roll 1/2 inch thick.
  6. Cut with 2 inch cutter.
  7. Place close together in shallow pan.With sharp knife, cut a cross in each roll.
  8. Brush with a solution of milk and sugar.
  9. Bake in hot 475 degrees for 20 minutes.
  10. Brush again with sugar and milk solution. Fill cross with plain frosting.
  11. Serve hot. Makes 12 buns.
