Lower East Side Nut Cake

Ingredients:

• 1/4 cup cake flour
• 1 teaspoon baking powder
• 1/4 teaspoon salt, plus a pinch for the egg whites
• 1/2 cup sugar, plus 1/2 cup
• 1/2 cup matzo meal
• 1 cup finely chopped, roasted hazelnuts
• 1/2 cup vegetable oil
• 4 eggs, separated
• 1/4 cup cream
• 2 tablespoons hazelnut liqueur
• 2 tablespoons melted butter
• Pinch cream tartar
• 1/4 cup spreadable seedless raspberry jam
• Ganache frosting, recipe follows
• 1 pint strawberries or raspberries, for garnish
• 4 ounces bittersweet chocolate, coarsely chopped
• 1/2 cup heavy cream
